Intimate Getaways With a Personal Touch

SOME IDEAS FOR YOUR TRIP TO COSTA RICA:
Here we'd like to introduce you to some places that represent the nicest accomodation and best hosts in Costa Rica today. But don't take our word for it - look most of them up in the excellent "SLEEPING WITH THE TOUCANS: The 100 best places to stay in Costa Rica or check them out on the top hotel ratings web site TripAdvisor.com
TORTUGUERO:
Turtle Beach Lodge
N. Caribbean Coast

This is THE place to experience something very special . . . mama turtles laying or baby turtles hatching on the beach at night. That . . . and an amazing variety of animals and jungle flora that is second to none in Costa Rica. You can do an overnight if you like but we'd recommend the 3 day 2 nights stay.

We took the night turtle tour after an exciting "fast boat" along pitch black canals (don't miss it in turtle season). There's an early morning canal tour to visit with caymans, turtles, birds and bats. Recommended and we'll be back.

MONTEVERDE:
El Sol
Just south of Monteverde

This is one of our favorites - just 2 log cabinas crafted with love - a big one and a smaller one situated on the sunny side of Santa Elena.

If you go to our tour site (InsightCostaRica) and click on the big yellow box ("the road less travelled"), you will see the view from our cabin. You will never forget your visit to the sunny smiles of El Sol. We highly recommend this magical spot.

ARENAL:
Leaves & Lizards
Near La Fortuna

This secluded lodge is one of our favorite visits - great hosts Debbie and Steve make it #1 for hospitality and how can you beat this view from your bedroom! An excellent surprise was a delightful visit to Cano Negro - this is a day trip into the jungle by car and by boat, just south of the Nicaraguan border. We met with cayman, bats, toucans, howler monkeys and a whole lot more you'll spend a lifetime trying to see. Must see.

TAMARINDO:
Villa Alegre
Guanacaste Coast

A favorite place when we need a beach break with our good friends Suzye and Barry. Villa Alegre offers a Spanish style villa built by the beach of Playa Langosta. Vacation in their peaceful and tranquil tropical setting adjacent to the Pacific Ocean. The rooms and villas are nicely setup and don't miss the huge breakfasts. Great pool and you are steps to the beach.

Don't miss a day at Avellanas beach when you are in the neighborhood.

PLAYA JUNQUILLAL:
Hotelito Si Si Si
Guanacaste Coast

Joan is a good friend and the host at Hotelito Si Si Si - a small upscale bed and breakfast with 3 modern rooms and 1 bedroom casita. With good access to Playas Junquillal, Negra and Avellanas, the "community club" offers guests pool, tennis and gym facilities. The serene little beach community is not far but you do need a car. We go for the turtles and a truly laid back vacation.

Luna Lodge
Entrance to Corcovado - Carate

The Luna Lodge is located on the "Osa Peninsula" near Carate - the hotel is as close as you can get to the most bio-diverse place in Costa Rica - the Corcovado National Park. One of our favorite lodges anywhere on the planet. Excellent service, good food and a great host. Great animal watching on the border of the Corcovado park.

THE OSA:
Black Turtle Lodge
Pueto Jimenez

This is a rustic jungle ecolodge located on the Southern Pacific side of Costa Rica near Puerto Jimenez in the amazing creature kingdom that is the Osa Peninsula. This small lodge has two cabinas and two tree houses. We particularly enjoyed our sunset kayak trip in the warm waters of the Golfo Dulce and a great dinner at Barbara's Jade Luna on our last trip to the Black Turtle.

LAKE ARENAL:
Chalet Nicholas
Nuevo Arenal

Your hosts Cathy & John are experts in their neighborhood and provided you don't smoke and love dogs, you won't find a nicer couple in Costa Rica to look after your stay. Make sure you take John's "walk in the forest" - we saw some beautiful Morphos on our last trip.
